Birju Dattani is the current Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC). 

He began his five-year term on August 8, 2024. Dattani replaced Charlotte-Anne Malischewski, who served as Interim Chief Commissioner since December 2022. 

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Arif Virani, appointed Dattani. Dattani has a background in law, including work at the Alberta Human Rights Commission, the Yukon Human Rights Commission, and Centennial College. 

The CHRC's mandate is to promote and protect human rights.
