No, it is not true that ultrasound weapons do not cause long-lasting damage; high-intensity exposure can result in permanent internal hearing damage, permanent deafness, and severe neurological or physiological disturbances. 

While some sources note that airborne ultrasound rarely causes bodily harm without prolonged, direct contact at high intensity, other evidence indicates significant risks: Hearing Damage: Exposure to high concentrations of sound waves (above 140 dB) can cause severe and permanent internal hearing damage and permanent deafness. 

Neurological Effects: Prolonged exposure to low-frequency tones has been linked to brain tissue injuries resembling minor head injuries, including long-term encephalopathy. 

Physiological Harm: Severe exposure can lead to muscle spasms, abnormalities in the central nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems, and lung or sinus injuries in aquatic environments. 

Legal and Ethical Concerns: The potential for permanent deafness has raised questions under international humanitarian law regarding "superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering." Although therapeutic ultrasound is generally safe when administered correctly, weaponized acoustic devices are designed to deliver much higher intensities, leading to the potential for lasting and severe physical harm.
