There actually is an interesting reason why it is in his left hand, and why he is not circumcised. He is being associated with the Catholic church, not Judaism. Also the left hand connects to right brain and chaos or systems theory. If you are looking in the mirror and hold up your left hand,  God would hold up his right hand. (Image) We are literally crossed. The brain's hemispheres control the opposite sides of the body due to a cross-wired neural connection pattern. 

This cross-wiring is a fundamental feature of the nervous system in bilaterally symmetrical animals, including humans. The left hemisphere of the brain controls movements and processes sensory information from the right side of the body, while the right hemisphere controls the left side.
